COOPERSTOWN RECAP
GREATEST GAME EVER PITCHED IN PATP HISTORY
JAPAN RECAP
2017 SCHEDULE
*PLAYING FOR THEIR DAD*

Dear Players,

Hope your favorite MLB team is in the playoffs. (mine ain’t) Lot’s to talk about so here we go…..

COOPERSTOWN RECAP
Just over a week ago we had our largest group ever in Cooperstown for our Father/Son event. I am confident we can get to 10 to 12 teams for next season. The event was won by Bill Steele’s team the Steelers. They went undefeated and beat the defending champion Reds 4 to 3 early in the tournament. The Reds won their remaining games and surrendered only 9 runs over 6 games.

GREATEST GAME EVER PITCHED

no-hitter

On the last game of the event which we scheduled as a possible “championship game” at Doubleday Field, Preston Thompson (pictured above)of the Reds pitched the greatest game in PATP history. He threw a NO HITTER against a very good team the L.I. Braves and struck out 17 batters!! Hats off to Preston and to all the players who made the trek to beautiful upstate New York.

Next year’s tentative dates are Sept. 15 to 17.

JAPAN TRIP

dsc_0574

The week before Cooperstown we brought a team of international travelers to Japan for our annual trip to Tokyo. It was another stellar time. Great group of people, stiff competition and a lot of laughs. We won our game in the Tokyo Dome against Mitz Tokuda’s Suns team, with Tommy Gerber picking up the game MVP. Also have to mention “Big” Mike Garcia who was the player of the week. We also had a very memorable game in the country side the last night with great friends Sugimoto and Kouzama and a lovey sukiyaki dinner afterwards. It was a blast. Dates for next years trip will be forthcoming in the near future. Thanks again to John Baessler for all he does for our clients and for all he has done for me personally the past 4 years.

2017 SUMMER SCHEDULE

The 2017 schedule is taking shape. We will be in Sugarland Texas February 24 to 26 and Palm Beach for the 14th time April 6 to 9. We are in the midst of changing our location in Florida for our February event. Don’t panic I’m on it. We’ll finalize that in the next 2 weeks.

Our summer is wide open as I type. We are moving the Rickwood Classic in Birmingham to Sept 29-Oct. 1 and that will be the rebirth of The Champions League. Bring your team and win a ring. We are hoping that the defending champs 2 years ago from Slidell Louisiana will venture up to Birmingham and join us.

We are thinking of the following summer destinations: Dayton Ohio at 5/3 Field, back to Toledo at 5/3 Field (How many are there?) I am going to re approach the Minnesota Twins and hopefully iron out a deal this year and we are going to contact Georgia State University which now owns Turner Field for a possible event. I am also tinkering with going back to Central Park. A lot of you always ask about that….. Chattanooga is also a possibility. We should have firm dates for the summer by the end of the month. We are also seriously considering the Sand Castle in Atlantic City. We may be working on the field this fall and early spring. We’ll keep you posted on AC.

*PLAYING FOR THEIR DAD*

And finally….Last week in Cooperstown was very special for me as I looked out and saw 28 fathers and their son’s playing ball together. But sadly 2 brothers were there who couldn’t play with their Dad. A father who had brought them to Cooperstown just the year before. The young men were Kyle and Kevin Savoia, Jr.

Their Dad Kevin who was a great client for many years and a true baseball lifer and lover, died from a heart attack over the winter. I found out about his passing by seeing his name on the Yankee Stadium scoreboard during old timers day. Kevin Sr. worked at Yankee Stadium on game days as part of their security team. In fact the last time I saw him was at the stadium quite by accident. To see his name on the board that day was heartbreaking. I made some calls to mutual friends to see if in fact it was him. It was. Shortly after that I received an email from his boys that they were coming to Coop to honor their father and play in the event. They did so with grace, dignity and love for him and the game. They were on the Steelers which won the event and Kevin Jr. finished the event with a Home Run at Doubleday Field.

Speak to you soon….thanks as always for your support of not just PATP but baseball…..

Hand Made by Heroes

Valor Bats

Dear Players,

We hope you are enjoying the last days of summer and that you’ve had success in your local baseball league and your favorite team is in the hunt for a playoff spot. If you’re a Cubs fan I’m sure you’re happy!

Lots to talk about so here we go….

Two weeks from today PATP will be in Japan for the 3rd year in a row playing against baseball crazy adult Japanese teams which will feature a game inside The Tokyo Dome. It’s a wild place to play and we look forward to another great trip organized and run by my great friends John Baessler and Mitz Tokuda. Johnny had some severe health issues earlier this year and I know he is not at 100% even now, but he insisted on guiding us once again through the streets of Tokyo…I love him for his determination and devotion to show this beautiful country and people using baseball as the tool to bring 2 cultures together….Thanks Johnny Boy!!

Three days after we return from Japan (and nursing Jet Lag) we head up to Cooperstown for our annual trip to the quaint village on Lake Otsego and historic Doubleday Field. We have 6 teams right now and the registration page is open. But take this cutoff date seriously….Labor Day Monday, Sept. 5th at 6PM. I am closing the reggies down. I need to put the event together before I leave for Japan on the 11th. I can rattle off 15 names of guys who still have not registered…if you are one of them or you have been giving this great chance to play in this father/son event PLEASE REGISTER!!!  I am not extending the deadline and I am not dealing with last minute additions etc. while I am in Japan. It will be the largest event we have held there and we are looking forward to the Dad’s playing with their children, a visit to the Hall of Fame, The Home Run Derby at Beaver Valley Campground and a chance to have the village to ourselves. You have till Monday…..

One of things that keeps PATP ahead of the other fine baseball event businesses is our willingness and especially yours to go to new premium places to play. We will always have Palm Beach, Rickwood and Cooperstown, but we have already added one new venue to the 2017 calendar and are looking at 3 or 4 more choices.

We are in talks now with the Chattanooga Lookouts, have gone to Atlantic City to check out “The Sandcastle Stadium” and will be approaching the Dayton Dragons and will re approach the Minnesota Twins. We are also considering moving the dates for Rickwood to later in the year….so the work never stops for us when it comes to bringing you to new venues to play ball at. So keep an eye in the upcoming weeks for news pertaining to these new spots.

But we do have an announcement now on a new venue…..We have agreed in principal with the Sugar Land Skeeters (Great logo btw) to play a 3 day, full rules tournament in Sugar Land, Texas February 24-26, 2017. We are looking for full teams but of course will take single players or groups. We are going to price this out on 2 tier levels…similar to Palm Beach, with all the bells and whistles….locker, lunch, laundry etc. Or just pull up and play ball….we think there will be a large number of local players who won’t need the extras…The deal was just struck yesterday and I will be working on the pricing in the next few days. We are very excited to be able to play at Constellation Stadium…it’s beautiful and the Facebook sniff we put out has been very well received. So keep an eye out for that official announcement next week….

We are also very happy to announce 2 new partnerships with direct linkage to our veterans. Hand Made by Heroes is a fabulous organization that makes beautiful bracelets, lanyards and other products with MLB loogs on them..click on their link here…but the most important thing about their product is they are made by disabled veterans. I bought a Cardinals braided rope bracelet…it’s awesome. I will have a sample of every team in Cooperstown…check them out.

The other new partner is Valor Bats which is run by my good friends Thomas Pack and Kevin Cosgriff-Hernandez. They spin their own wood and are just getting started in the business. I’ll have some of their product also in Coop…click here for a link to their site. Although they are not made by veterans they are made with the 5 branches of service in mind which explains their great logo of a large 5 above chevrons.

And finally as some of you may have heard via Facebook our great friend David Montgomery Jr. has had to go some very serious medical procedures the past 2 weeks. David collapsed one evening and it turned out he had a huge tumor on his brain. He endure a 12 hour operation and is steadily showing signs of recovery. He is already in physical therapy as we speak and all signs now point to a full recovery, but it will take tremendous effort on his part and good will, prayers and thoughts to him on our part. The Montgomery family has supported PATP since their inception. David Sr. always knew what I was trying to achieve with this business…play hard, make lifelong friends and respect the game. My heart, prayers and thoughts go to Jr., his mom Debbie, wife Kara and David Sr. I welcome the day that David Montgomery Jr. walks back onto the field…..that day will happen….

Well that’s it for now…thanks for reading…enjoy Labor Day, sign up for Coop and heads up for future announcements….be safe.

 RICKWOOD RECAP

THE SUMMER SALE

SAN DIEGO HERE WE COME

MUD HENS MANIA

A BASEBALL BROTHER NEEDS SOME HELP

Dear Players,

We hope that the beginning of the summer season has been treating you well. Just some quick stuff here to go over so here we go….
Congratulations to the Atlanta Muckbaggers who won their 4th consecutive Rickwood title last weekend. It was a hot weekend for sure and I take my hat off to all the players who made the trip to America’s oldest field. The Baggers beat the Texas Bandits 8 to 5. The Bandits who had not won a pool game upset the Bisons in the semi’s 4 to 3 in a real nail biter. It was great baseball from all the teams. No blow outs and everyone had a victory. A special note of thanks to my dear friend Jerry Harris the manager of the Alabama Cardinals who is retiring from baseball this season. Jerry was instrumental in making this event happen. I’ll miss him, but his group will continue to join us. In fact we are expanding this event next year as we have found another field to play at this is beautiful and close by, Birmingham Southern College. We may be changing the time of year on this and move it to September and re-institute The Champions League….more on this as time moves on…but we are going to make the event grow regardless of the calendar.
Just a reminder that we extended the summer sale which will now end on the evening of the All Star Game. Dozens of players have taken advantage of this sale. You’ll get another reminder next week. Recap of Summer Sale at the end of this page.
Speaking of the All Star Game, I will be heading out to San Diego next week for my annual gig with MLB and run their fantasy camp. They allowed us to sell some spots this year and we are thrilled to be bringing 10 clients of our own to this great gala event.
We still have about a dozen spots left for Toledo….I may be willing to make a deal on this event and a future one….call me…Check out the summer sale below.
And finally a very good friend of ours who handles the umpires in Birmingham is need of our help. David Webster’s wife is a quadriplegic after suffering a freak fall one night several years ago in her home. David’s constant care of his wife has had an unbelievable toll on him. He unfortunately lost his job as a result of the time needed to care for her and now finds himself needing the help of those who can certainly spare a few dollars. I implore you to go to the link listed here and help the Webster family. Please!!
Enjoy….July, see you in San Diego and Toledo…..oh by the way…we need 3 more guys for Japan!!

 What’s Inside:

Mud Hens Mania
Rickwood Field
Yokohama Classic
Extra Innings

Dear Players,

Just a quick hello with some recent updates and news concerning some upcoming events.

MUD HENS MANIA – Toledo, Oh

We offered a 15% discount on our Mud Hens Mania trip to Toledo this August 4-7. That offer will be in place until June 1. So take advantage of it. It’s a great time. All the info is on our PATP website.

RICKWOOD FIELD CLASSIC – Birmingham, Al

This June 24-26 we return for the 5th year to my favorite venue, Rickwood Field in Birmingham Alabama. We have 4 team from 4 different locales across America coming to our nation’s oldest field. We still have a few single spots left, so if you’d like the chance to play at an unbelievable place sign up now!

YOKOHAMA CLASSIC – Tokyo, Japan

Speaking of a few spots, we have just a few remaining for our annual trip to Japan this September 12th to 19th. If going to Japan has been on your bucket list, here’s the chance to cross it off. In addition to the sight-seeing and playing against Japanese adult teams, you’ll have the chance to play a game inside the world famous Tokyo Dome.

EXTRA INNINGS CHARITY EVENT – New York City

And finally a great friend and client of PATP is having a charity event in NYC on Monday, May 9th. I know it’s a little late notice but Al Dabah of Simba Productions is raising money for his new independent film called “Extra Innings” and a charity dedicated towards suicide prevention. You don’t have to be at the event to help Al. Just click on this link above if you’d like to make a donation.

Well I guess that’s it for now….

I think it’s gonna be a long season for my Cardinals. Could this really be the Cubs year?

As always, thanks for your support.

April Newsletter 2016 at PATP

 Dear Players,

Let’s talk about:

PALM BEACH RECAP

RICKWOOD CLASSIC

MUD HENS MANIA

DOUBLEDAY FALL CLASSIC

We’d like to thank all the players who came down to Palm Beach very recently for a great sun drenched 4 days of baseball, camaraderie and competition at one of America’s special sites, Roger Dean Stadium and complex in Jupiter Florida.

Clearly the 2 best teams met on Saturday afternoon to decide who would be this year’s champions. The Reds beat the very formidable Knights of Chicago and took their 11 title in 13 years. All the teams got into the win column.

Next year’s dates for Palm Beach will be April 6-9, 2017.

So now we set our sights on the summer schedule, which will feature trips to Birmingham Alabama, Toledo Ohio and Cooperstown N.Y.

RICKWOOD CLASSIC

As of this writing, there are only a few single spots left for our Rickwood Classic. Three teams have agreed to join us including the 3 time defending champs, the Muckbaggers of Atlanta.

So if you are interested in playing ball at America’s oldest field, sign up today!! It’s just $150 per single player.

MUD HENS MANIA IN TOLEDO

In early August (5-7) we will return to Toledo Ohio for the 2nd Annual Mud Hens Mania which will again take place at historic Ned Skeldon Field and 5/3 Field in downtown Toledo.

If you sign up for that event in the next 2 weeks, you can save up to 15% on the single player fee and $100 on the father/son rate. Sign up on line and pay the full price and we’ll mail out the rebate immediately…it’s just easier this way. The single player fee is $525 and Father/Son is $895

COOPERSTOWN DOUBLE DAY CLASSIC

Speaking of father/sons…It’s time to start planning that trip to Cooperstown this September 23-25. It’s our parent child event. Last year we had 19 father/son combos at this event and we are hoping to get at least 30. It’s a great trip for a parent to take their child to a place like Doubleday Field. It will include not only playing at that historic field in downtown Cooperstown, but a private visit to the National Baseball Museum and Hall of Fame. No other group offers this to their campers. It’s a great family vacation as there is plenty of other activities in the area to do. It’s also pocket book friendly with the lodging and easy in getting around the town.

This event is promoted as our true father son event, but you can attend as a team or as a single player. The single rate is $395, Father/Sons $750, Father/ 2 Sons $995 and great team rate of $4500 for a team of 12. ($350 per player after 12)

Well I am sure your leagues back home have started, hope you’re playing well and totally immersed in baseball…it’s a great time of year….

MARCH NEWSLETTER 2016

Happy Spring Training everybody! Isn’t it a great time of year. All our teams are gearing up for the season and hopefully you are also.

4 weeks from tomorrow we will be enjoying our 13th annual trip to the fabulous Palm Beaches for the best spring training event in adult baseball, The Palm Beach Classic at Roger Dean Stadium and complex.

There are still some spots left. We will be closing the registration for this event on Saturday March 26th at 6PM EDT

Many of you have said you are attending but have not gone to our website to register…please do so before the cut-off date.

On other news…We thought we had one or two MLB Parks this year to play at, Seattle and Minnesota. The cost for Seattle was agreed upon which was quite fair and sellable and then additional costs for things like dugouts, locker rooms and batting tunnels entered the picture and it became prohibitive. The Twins wanted us at a great rate but could we could not find a mutually agreeable date and adding the St. Paul Saints to mix who were also willing to host us, just proved to be too difficult to put together. We will try again next year for Target Field.

Toledo is a go and if you were on the waiting list last year to play at both the former and current home of the Mud Hens, you should be thinking about that trip now…it’s happening August 4-6.

Do you have a team that can play some ball in a full rules only event? Come to the Rickwood Classic in Birmingham Alabama this June 24-26th and play some serious hardball at America’s oldest park.

Next week we’ll send out our annual MLB predictions contest. It’s a lot of fun and we usually get 150 participants a year. I can’t wait to see how many people are going to pick the Cubs, probably the same amount who picked the Nationals last year. (Can’t tell I’m a Cards fan huh?) Speaking of which, the Cardinals are running a contest for the most fanatical fan. You submit a 2 minute video…get ready for that…I’m winning that contest!!!

Well that’s it for now…remember to register for Palm Beach before the 26th…we have 2 great hotels to choose from. All the info is our site: playattheplate.org

Speak to you soon…..Greenie
