November News Update

Rickwood Field Dates for 2015

St. Pete Classic

Black Friday

Hello Players,

Just a quick hello after a long mobile journey around America’s heartland.

First news of the day; we finally have the dates for next year’s 3rd Annual Rickwood Field Classic. It will be held on June 26-28. Of all the parks I have played at this is hands down my favorite. Yeah even better than Wrigley or Fenway. It’s quaint antiquated setting and funky light towers along with the new air conditioned locker rooms have made this event for me, my personal favorite.

Then add the unbelievable historical significance of the field, the players who have played there and add the fact that it is basically maintained by 2 gentlemen who need groups like ours to play there to help keep it thriving gives us a great feeling of satisfaction that in a small way we keep one of America’s Crown Jewels of Baseball alive.

It’s the least expensive event we run with a team rate of only $2000. So if you have never been to Rickwood in bustling Birmingham Alabama, here’s your chance.

The next event we will be holding and first of the New Year will be our 3rd trip to sunny warm St. Petersburg for a 3 day event at the Walter Fuller Complex. It has 5 fields, huge clubhouse, batting tunnels etc. All the goodies we are famous for will be available to you….locker, lunch and laundry service for the uniforms. We are hoping to have 8 teams for this full rules event. If you have a team call soon as you can save big time on a team rate. Also, the camp hotel The Postcard Inn looks wild with beach front access, tiki bar, pool, fire pit and surf motif rooms….great spot for the wife or girlfriend to hang out during the day while you’re playing…

We will be holding our annual Black Friday and Cyber Monday Sale (But we won’t be open for business on Thanksgiving) November 28, which will run till Tuesday the Dec. 2nd.  It will be a great chance to save on 2015 events with many different pricing options for multiple events, team rates and individual sign ups. You’ll be getting the emails starting next Monday announcing the sale with all the details.

And finally to all my friends around the country who reached out to me via social networking or text messages while I was on my 5000 mile journey around the country, thanks for keeping me company….I went to places I had always wanted to experience, saw some family, great friends, a few ball parks (Louisville and Springfield) and enjoyed the nations back roads for 3 weeks.

Well I gotta bring some wood up to the front porch, it’s getting chilly….heads up for the Sale promos next week…speak to you soon….

Japan Recap

Champions League Review

Let’s drive around America

Upcoming stuff

Lots to talk about so let’s get started.

We’ll start off by saying the trip to Japan that was organized by my great friend John Baessler was the trip of a lifetime. I didn’t think that it could out do the one from the year before but it did. (And we have more treats in store for next year) We had a great group of players and guests and further cemented our relationships with the Japanese players and their guests and had the time of our lives.

We won 2 out of the 3 games we played, the highlight play a Terry Lee Grand Slam in the last game, visited 2 ballparks, saw the sights and had a great last night at Seibudome where our logo was flashed on the message board and a camera zoomed in to our group….. (Thanks to “Help Me” Mitz Tokuda)….and then we were allowed to go on the field after the game. We are currently in talks with the Seibu Lions to play a game there and I believe we have struck a deal.

The 2015 trip is going out for sale this week with an early registration discount and only a deposit is required to hold your very limited spot. If you have ever wanted to have this adventure, don’t pass on it. It’s awesome!!!!

Last week in New Orleans the defending champion Southland Hogs received their Champions League rings from last year and retained their title with a 4-0 victory over a very tough and undefeated Baton Rouge Reds team. It was played in the best weather ever for that event, and by far was the best baseball we have ever had at one of our tournaments. The PATP team which is generally a pool team of players was 3-0 going into the last day…then we met both the Reds and Hogs and were clearly outclassed….even though I want to thank the guys from Houston who joined us and the rest of the team, as we had a blast, made new friends and played some damn good baseball for a couple days.

Again, congrats to the best team to ever play in one of our events…The Southland Hogs!!

As some of you know, especially those who follow me or PATP on Facebook, I am currently taking a very meandering trip around our great country. I have left New Orleans with stops in Houston, Marble Falls, and currently type out this news update in Oklahoma City….today on to Springfield Mo. I’m having a blast and need the time to wind down after a very busy fall season……check Facebook for all the minutia….

Our next event is February 6-8 in St. Petersburg Florida. As you probably know we had to change the venue from Al Lang to the Walter Fuller Complex a few miles away. We have contacted a great beach front hotel called the Postcard Inn and it looks fabulous. The perfect family get away vacation….The baseball complex is Major League all the way with all the amenities we are famous for, so check out the info on the website…we can now accept more players as we have more fields at our disposal.

Well I gotta pack…..checkout time here is fast approaching and I have a meeting with the Simpson Family in Springfield……be in touch soon…….

Join us for Mud Hen Mania in 2015

Toledo, Ohio

fifth third field 2Play at the Plate has reached agreement with both the former and current home of one of baseball’s most recognizable teams….The Toledo Mud Hens for a multi venue 3 day event that will happen next July 24-26.  You’ll play 5 games over the 3 days between historic Skeldon Stadium and the state of the art home of the Mud Hens, Fifth/Third Field in downtown Toledo Ohio.

Lunch will be served daily, a camp get together and even a ticket to Monday night’s game at 5/3 Field.

You will have a locker at 5/3 Field and have use of the batting tunnels etc.

We have contacted the Park Inn Hotel directly behind 5/3 and are waiting to hear from them on a group rate.

We are treating this as an MLB Park event. We are taking only 60 players. 4 teams of 15. We have mentioned this event possibly happening to many of you and we were pleasantly surprised at the amount of interest in wanting to go to Toledo.

fifth third field 1

We have interest from a Canadian group, a Detroit team, a group out of Maryland and the usual clients who love to travel and play ball at great venues like these.

This will be a competitive advanced-modified rules event as used in Palm Beach last April.

When I went for the tour of 5/3 Field last May it blew me away. It is major league quality all the way!!

The best news is the price: just $475 per player or $895 for a father/son.

Registration opens this Thursday at noon. You need to register and pay online to secure a spot for this unique event.

We have decided for the time being to curtail our MLB Park events. The price points to rent and then sell to our clients continue to climb and we want to bring historic and new ballparks to you with a reasonable fee.

Well….here it is…..Corporal Klinger would be proud……  Wait a minute…The Corporal Klinger Classic…….can I use that?

September-October Newsletter at Play at the Plate

September-October 2014

  • Cooperstown Review
  • Tokyo bound
  • 4th Annual Champions League
  • Scott’s fearless postseason forecast

Dear Players,

Just got back from a great trip to Cooperstown (the trailer is still up there) from an event we need to publicize and promote more for next year. We had 11 father/son combos this trip that added a refreshing experience to the overall event.

After losing most of the day Saturday at Damaschke Field in Oneonta because of rain, we loaded up the schedule and got the games in on a glorious day on Sunday. The Cardinals led by Bill Steele and Kevin Savoia with their boys led that team to a hard fought victory over the Diamondbacks led by good friend John Sfakis…..

We are going to promote this event as a national father/son tournament. The tentative dates for next year are Sept. 11-13. In addition to the great ball that was played, we really enjoyed having the Hall of Fame to ourselves after hours on Friday night. I think we’ll make that a regular addition to the program.

So, if you are a father who has a child 14 years of age or older and would like a great baseball experience, think about next year’s event. We will be opening the registration page for that later this week. We feel we could get 10 or more teams for next year’s tournament.

As many of you know our annual trip to Japan is next week, and yours truly will be heading to San Diego (for the first time) and then to Japan with good friend Mark Bauer on Sunday. We have a full group which will be led by great friend John Baessler. I am really looking forward to it. You’ll have all the details on my arrival home, check facebook, Instagram for updates, pictures etc.

After a week or 2 off, we head down to New Orleans for our 4th Annual Champions League Series….The defending champions the Southland Hogs will be getting their rings prior to their first game on Zephyr Field. We should have 6-8 teams vying for a chance to call themselves the Champions of the best baseball we offer at any venue.

There is still time to sign up as a single pool player, small group or team…go to our website for all the info.

Oh yeah. Fearless prediction……here’s one….Cards vs. Angels in the World Series…Albert comes back to beat the Cards…..

Well, gotta unpack from Cooperstown and pack for Japan….speak to you soon….

Check out all of our upcoming events on our website.

Sayonara,

Greenie

Your fee includes all of the baseball activity, use of the locker rooms when available, perhaps a get together party. It does not include any travel expenses, lodging or meals unless otherwise stated.

Glove, cleats, (Most MLB Parks insist on turf shoes) a pro style uniform or two, cap. We will provide the balls, helmets, and catchers gear.

Are aluminum bats allowed?
Absolutely not. Not ever, ever, ever.

When should I arrive at the city the tournament is being played in?
Ideally you should arrive the night before.

Almost always by early evening the last day of the tournament.

You are free to stay anywhere you like. We always find a nationally known hotel that will give us a good rate for the group.

Children (accompanied by a parent) of 15 years old may play, but they cannot pitch.
