If you’ve ever dreamed of playing on a finely manicured field, then this is the tournament for you. Of all the fields we have played on over 19 years, Durham Athletic Park, the site of the movie “Bull Durham” is without a doubt in our top 3.
The city poured millions of dollars into the park and the playing surface, and it’s maintained by one of America’s best groundskeepers, Joe Stumpo. It’s fabulous. Add the trendy restaurants that surround the park, (My favorite The Blue Note) a bustling reinvigorated downtown area, great restaurants and night life and this is a trip that must be made. Along with the fact that one of the best baseball movies ever made was filmed in this quaint little baseball cathedral just adds to the luster.
You’ll be scheduled to play 7 games over the 4 days, in a round robin playoff format. The fees remain the same from a few years ago.
- Single players: $425
- A team of 13: $5250 up to 13, $400 after that
A light lunch will be served at the park every day and you can use the locker rooms too! This event has just enough room for 6, maybe 8 teams. The usual age requirements apply: 25 to play, 30 to pitch in this modified rule tournament. We’ve had 3 great events here, with serious competition, camaraderie and just a damn good time.
