I ain’t sweating yet………………..Cubs Fans

September 17th, 2009

I became a Cardinals fan during the 64 season. I was 9 at the time and can still remember the day Lou Brock came to the Cards for Ernie Bruglio.  (June 15) The Cards went all the way that year, after the Phillies collapsed in the final 2 weeks of the season. Well my boys have an 8 and half game lead right now with 16 to play. The magic number is 9, but we’ve lost 5 of 6. All tough games. The Cubbies are coming to town for 3 this weekend. I am not in a panic mode by any stretch, but to read the St. L. papers, you’d think they were on the Titanic. Take a deep breath and kick some Cubbie ass….If Smoltz, Carpenter and Wainwright can’t get it done this weekend, then I’ll start worrying. (big time) Also, keep an eye on the Tigers and Twins the next few weeks. They play 7 times. Never count out the Twinkies.

Where are the pennant races this year?

September 14th, 2009

It’s mid September, and we die hard baseball fans should be glued to the tube watching those out of town scores. Not this year. This has to rank as one of the worst years for a playoff race as I can remember. Other than the Red Sox holding a 2 game lead on Texas for the Wild Card, not much else is  very close.  I’m not complaining, (Iguess I am really) my team (Cardinals) has a 10 game lead but where the hell is the excitement. I’m watching tennis for God’s sake, and saw most of the Jets game yeasterday. I usually don’t get into football until baseball is close to being over. Hopefully the excitement will pick up during the MLB playoffs. Got a prediction?………………..

What would Gehrig, Musial, Mays DiMaggio, or Ted Williams earn today?

September 12th, 2009

As I watched the Derek Jeter highlights this morning concerning his new Yankees hit record, it was mentioned that he earns approximately 35K per at bat. That was the amount of money Gehrig earned for the entire 1939 season. Now granted, 35K went a little further in ‘39 than it does today, but whoa…
The Cardinals are faced with signing Albert Pujols after next season. What number do you think Albert will command for his services on a long range deal. The Cards have no choice but to sign him and keep less expensive parts  around him. The fan base there would revolt if he went somewhere else. They are going to have trouble signing Holliday after this season, even though they will get over 3 million fans for the season. I guess you gotta play in New York……………..

Let the Ranting and Raving begin

September 11th, 2009

Well here’s the first blog on our website. Everybody else does this, so why not us…….
Got to the Yankee game Wednesday with my son Ian (about time he got some tickets) Watching Jeter tie Gehrig for all time hits by a Yankee was pretty special. It was also my first trip to the new Stadium. The ticket has been framed and is now hanging alongside other ticket stubs from what I consider important sporting events. It was even more special to be sitting 10 rows behind the Yankees dugout with my son. It reminded me of the time my Dad took me to the original Yankee Stadium for my first game and saw Roger Maris break Ruth’s record. What a great way to start a love affair with baseball. I don’t rank this historic milestone with that or Ozzies homer in 85, McGwire breaking Maris’ record in 98 or the Rangers winning the cup, but hell this was special because it had to do with Lou Gehrig.
